One Chain, Many Possibilities: How to Style Your Pearl Necklace

The styling journal · Zoe & Pearl

One chain. A different side of you.

A single pearl today. A playful pair tomorrow. A little more contrast when the mood changes. With a needle-end necklace and compatible drilled pearls, you can change your combination without changing your whole necklace.

Start small, add a larger pearl, or bring light and dark tones together. The beauty is in choosing what feels like you.

A small detail. More possibilities.

The slim needle-shaped end of the chain passes through the pre-drilled hole in a compatible pearl, allowing you to slide the pearl onto the necklace. Add one, remove one, or rearrange the sequence to create your own combination.

The adjustable bead on the chain shown lets you change the necklace’s length, so your pearls can sit closer to the collarbone or a little lower with a different neckline.

How to make it yours

  1. Choose your combination. Lay your pearls on a soft cloth and decide on the order before threading.
  2. Thread gently. Following your chain’s opening instructions, free the needle end and pass it through each pearl’s existing hole. Slide each pearl gently onto the chain.
  3. Find your length. Reconnect the chain securely, then use its adjustable bead as directed to find a comfortable position.
  4. Wear, then reimagine. Next time, swap a pearl or change the order for a fresh look.

Use pearls made to fit your particular chain. Both the needle end and chain must pass freely through the hole; never force them. If you are unsure about compatibility, ask us before combining pieces.

Three ways to wear your pearls

Single, double and graduated round pearl necklace combinations

01 / Keep it simple

One round pearl brings a quiet point of light to a white shirt, soft knit or everyday T-shirt. Choose a smaller pearl for a delicate accent, or a larger one when you want the pearl to lead the look.

02 / Make a pair

Place a small pearl beside a larger one for an unexpected balance. Keep both pearls in a similar colour for a gentle look, or pair a light pearl with a deep, dark tone for more contrast—as in our cover photograph.

03 / Play with proportion

Combine three compatible pearls in graduated sizes. Try the largest in the middle for symmetry, or arrange them from small to large for a more individual rhythm. Let the necklace be the focus and keep the rest of your jewellery simple.

Small, bold, or a little of both?

Size changes the feeling of a necklace. A smaller pearl feels light and understated; a larger pearl creates a stronger focal point. Mixing the two gives a familiar pearl necklace a personal twist.

Style it around your day

For an open shirt, let a single pearl sit just below the collarbone. With a crew-neck top, adjust the chain so the pearls sit clearly above or below the neckline. For evening, try a two-tone pair or a graduated trio with a simple dress.

You can also layer separate necklaces at different lengths. Leave a little space between them so each pearl has room to stand out.

Pearls, your way.

Start with one pearl. Add another when you feel like it. Your favourite combination can change with you.

After wearing, gently wipe your pearls with a soft cloth and store them separately from other jewellery. Apply fragrance before putting them on, and remove them before swimming or showering.
