Your everyday ritual.

  1. Finish getting ready first.

Apply perfume, skincare and hairspray before putting on your pearls. Keep jewelry away from household cleaners.

  2. Take them off for water and activity.

Remove pearl jewelry before swimming, showering, exercise and sleep. This also helps protect delicate chains and fittings from pulling and impact.

  3. Wipe, then put away.

After wear, gently wipe pearls with a clean, soft cloth. Store each piece separately in a soft pouch, away from sharp jewelry and hot, dry conditions.

Cleaning, gently.

Never use steam or ultrasonic cleaners on pearls. A slightly damp, soft cloth is a good starting point. GIA permits occasional cleaning of pearls with warm soapy water, but the whole piece matters: avoid soaking jewelry with glued settings or mixed materials. Let stringing dry fully before wear. For your specific piece, contact us before using a cleaning solution.

Care for the metal, too.

Keep abrasive polish away from gold vermeil and pearls. A silver polishing cloth should only touch suitable exposed silver areas, following the cloth maker’s instructions. Use a plain soft cloth for gold-finished surfaces.

Check detachable pieces.

Work over a soft cloth or tray. Check that clasps and retaining beads are secure before wearing. Stop if a fitting feels loose, a chain is kinked, or a pearl will not slide easily. Do not bend or force a needle end.

Can I wear pearls every day?

Yes, with thoughtful care. Take them off for activities that expose them to water, chemicals or impact, and check delicate fittings regularly.
